A: Atlox 4917, is an aqueous dispersant introduced by Croda a few years ago. With its foundation in well-established acrylic polymer chemistry, Atlox 4917 draws inspiration from the success of its predecessors, Atlox 4913 and Atlox Metasperse 500L.

Q: Can you give us some insights into new research on Atlox 4917?

A: Our recent exploratory efforts have led us to uncover the untapped potential of Atlox 4917 in two distinct areas. The first area investigates its promising seed binder properties, while the second explores its dual role as both a dispersant and a wetting agent in SC formulations. Early data indicates that Atlox 4917 succeeds in both domains.

Q: How does Atlox 4917 address industry challenges?

A: Atlox 4917 is a solution to the important industry problem related to seed binders. Formerly, our go-to product was Atlox SemSera; however, impending EU microplastic legislation poses a challenge as Atlox SemSera is likely going to be classed as a microplastic. Atlox 4917, already a commercial product, provides an immediate alternative for testing in specific applications.

Q: How does the dual functionality of Atlox 4917 works?

A: Our research reveals that, in certain formulations, the need for a separate wetting agent, such as Atlas G-5002L, is eliminated when Atlox 4917 is added as the dispersant. This not only simplifies formulations by reducing component numbers but also holds the potential for cost benefits, dependent upon the specific system's use rate requirements.

Q: How does Atlox 4917 compare with Atlox 4913?

A: Unlike Atlox 4913, a historical product in the agrochemical industry, our research indicates that Atlox 4917 boasts additional binding and wetting agent properties. Notably, Atlox 4913 lacks these features, as evidenced when it clogged the mills when used without a wetting agent in our initial tests. Atlox 4917 also differs in its molecular structure to Atlox 4913, meaning when combined they can provide a synergistic effect when it comes crystal growth inhibition.
